ไม้พุ่มหรือไม้ต้นขนาดเล็ก สูง 1-7 เมตร กิ่งก้านสีน้ำตาลอ่อน ใบ เดี่ยว ออกตรงข้าม รูปหอกหรือรีแกมขอบขนาน กว้าง 1.5-5 ซม. ยาว 5-15 ซม. โคนใบสอบเรียว ปลายใบแหลม ขอบใบเรียบ แผ่นใบหนาคล้ายแผ่นหนัง เกลี้ยง ดอก สีขาว ออกเป็นกลุ่มตาม ซอกใบ กลีบรองดอก 4 กลีบ รูปสามเหลี่ยมขนาดเล็ก กลีบดอก 4 กลีบ เชื่อมติดกันที่ฐานเป็นหลอด ยาว 3-5 มม. ปลายกลีบแผ่มนกลม เกสรผู้ 2 อัน ติดอยู่ด้านในกลีบดอก เกสรเมีย 1 อัน ปลายแยกเป็น 2 แฉก ผล เป็นผลสด ผลแก่สีม่วงดำ รูปรี ยาว 1-2 ซม.
Shrub or small tree, 1-7 m high; young shoots pale brown. Leaves simple, opposite, coriaceous, lanceolate to oblong-elliptic, 5-15 cm long by 1.5-5 cm wide, glabrous; base cuneate; apex acuminate; margin serrate. Inflorescence axillary, fascicles. Flowers white; calyx 4, lobes triangular, small; corolla 4, united at base, 3-5 mm long, lobes rounded; stamens 2, attached near the top of the corolla tube; style 1; stigma bilobed. Fruit drupe, dark purplish-black, ellipsoid, 1-2 cm long.
พบตั้งแต่อินเดีย ถึงเอเชีย ตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ประเทศไทยพบตามป่าดิบเขาทางภาคเหนือที่ดอยอินทนนท์ ที่ระดับความสูง 2,400-2,565 เมตร ออกดอก ช่วงเดือนกันยายน-ตุลาคม ติดผลช่วงเดือนมีนาคม
India to Southeast Asia. In Thailand found in the northern region, in hill evergreen forests at very high elevations of Doi Inthanon, at 2,400-2,565 m. Flowering from September to October. Fruiting in March.
